Bistro 63 gets its name from its location along US-63 in tiny Barronett, Wisconsin. The restaurant fills the ground floor of a rather plain old farmhouse. But oh, the food that awaits once you step inside! The fine-dining restaurant is owned by chef Jeno Herman, whose grandparents once operated a restaurant in the area, too. Jeno's mom can often be found serving as hostess, cheerily escorting you to a table in the dining area, which features deep red walls painted with Italian sayings such as Buon Mangia (Good Eating). Outdoor dining on the deck is also available.
Dinner is the only meal served here, and the menu, while modest, carries a well-rounded selection of dishes. Appetizers include bruschetta, bacon-wrapped shrimp, calamari fritta with basil aioli ($6.50-$8). Soup, salad, sandwiches and burgers ($4.50-$11) are also available. Those with more of an appetite will be tempted by a selection of pastas like the seared gnocchi with mushroom and green onion in an herb cream sauce topped with grilled beef shoulder steak, plus steak, fish and poultry dishes ($14-$21.50). Warm Parmesan focaccia bread is served with each entree, along with soup or salad. Everything is beautifully presented and expertly cooked. Service is prompt and friendly.
Of course, what's a good meal without a fine glass of wine? Bistro 63 has a nice wine list, with about a half-dozen varieties available by the glass, plus plenty of reds, whites and sparkling wines available by the bottle. Beer and other drinks are available from the full bar. When you're finished, a small number of desserts are offered. But if you didn't save room, you'll still be sent off with a complimentary hand-rolled truffle.
