Boatyard goes above and beyond the average bagel shop. All the bagels ($1 apiece, $9.90/dozen) are made with organic ingredients, then boiled and baked fresh on-site every day. There’s a nice variety of flavors to choose from, including blueberry, whole wheat honey, onion, poppyseed, pumpernickel, jalapeño, salt and pepper and everything. The homemade, organic cream cheeses are just as tasty in flavors like plain, strawberry, chocolate chip, sun-dried tomato basil, Nutella banana and hot giardiniera.
Want something a little more substantial? Boatyard offers whimsically named salads and sandwiches. For breakfast, the Beam satisfies with eggs over homemade turkey sausage with white cheddar and roasted red pepper aioli ($6.50). Served hot or cold, the Barrelman makes a fine and filling lunch option with corned beef, Swiss, caramelized red onions, house coleslaw and Dijon ($7.50).
A small coffee bar in the corner pours basic java, specialty coffee drinks, tea, soda, juice and water. Newspapers and free Wi-Fi encourage guests to linger, but you can get food to go for a picnic at the lake a block away.
