This small but expansive bookstore is lovable at first sight with its vivid green walls, a brightly painted Victorian "roof line" and upside-down umbrellas hanging from the ceiling in the kids’ corner. A plush red armchair invites visitors to curl up with a children's book, and a colorful wooded playhouse mural sparks young imaginations.
The rest of this IndieBound-affiliated shop caters to adults and young adults with a carefully vetted inventory of fiction and nonfiction titles. There's a smattering of retail gifts and games, even a knitting section stocked with needles and yarn for sale. The store promotes heavy community involvement with several book groups, Storytime Saturdays, poetry jams, summer art and knitting classes, and a writers' club.
There is another bookstore on historic Main Street, but it's actually a chain in disguise. It's worth walking the extra block or two to Apple Blossom, part of the blue-awninged Shops at City Center strip mall. As an added attraction, the attached Caramel Crisp Cafe next door makes this the perfect spot to while away a leisurely morning browsing, sipping lattes and munching treats.
