Rows of perfect little treats topped with artful swirls of frosting beckon from under the glass counter at Cupcake Emporium. Each day brings a rotating selection of flavors like Key lime pie, blueberry velvet, mint chocolate, pink champagne and cinnamon almond. (Customer favorites like classic chocolate, vanilla, red velvet and peanut butter cup are available daily.) Some varieties even have a little surprise baked inside—a maraschino cherry hidden in the Pink Party, for instance. The cake is dense and moist, and the frosting heavenly with a creamy, buttery flavor that's not too sweet.
The shop’s interior is small but pleasant with a 1950s diner feel that features black-and-white checkerboard floors and motorcycle art on the wall. A large Jelly Belly dispenser accounts for one entire corner. Cupcake Emporium also offers soups, sandwiches and ice cream, but the cupcakes are definitely the star attraction and make visits well worthwhile.
Customers can buy single cupcakes to enjoy on the spot for about $2 each, or purchase a box of nine to take home for $18.
