Visitors to the Iowa Speedway in Newton will find a modern track with all the fixings for a full day, or weekend, of fun. A 7/8-mile short track provides fast racing in a variety of series, with NASCAR Nationwide being the most widely recognized (tickets $65 and up). Other races through the season include the Camping World Truck Series and the Izod IndyCar Series. The venue also hosts concerts after many races, and tailgating is common practice.
If you're willing to pay the $3,500 membership fee, Newton Club members receive access to a special area with individual seats and a 10,000-square-foot clubroom with two full-service bars. Regular metal grandstand seating is bleacher-style, and all levels offer a good view of the track. Bring a chair pad for extra comfort. No fan is ever turned away; the speedway offers standing room-only tickets if seats sell out.
Racing enthusiasts who really want to get close to the action can visit the Fan Walk area, where a walkway takes you next to the pits and Victory Lane; openings in the fence allow you to try and snag a driver's autograph. Parking is ample and convenient, and concession options include Pizza Ranch, Culver's and Iowa Machine Shed. Even fair-weather fans should get a kick out of the overall racing experience.
