The Tudor Arms, University Circle's newest hotel, also happens to be one of the area's oldest. The 11-story Tudor-Gothic building was the last designed by Frank Meade, the architect behind many of Cleveland’s iconic buildings. It opened in 1931 as The Cleveland Club, playing host to celebs like Bob Hope and Al Capone. By 1939, it was the Tudor Arms Hotel, which closed to the public in the 1960s, and in 2011 was a budget-friendly, boutique hotel.

The 157 rooms range from singles to suites, starting at around $120 a night (watch for discounts and package options). Common areas feature restored original details such as gorgeous landscape murals in the Crystal Ballroom, low-slung wooden beams in the two-story Tudor ballroom and bas-relief sculptures tucked into corners throughout. Bedrooms are outfitted with Euro-style furnishings that are simultaneously sleek and comfy; marble countertops and down comforters make even the smallest rooms feel sophisticated and spacious. Thoroughly modern showers equipped with standard and rain showerheads extend the luxe aura.

The Tudor Arms offers all the standard amenities—Wi-Fi, fitness facilities and a decent breakfast buffet, plus extras like in-room microwaves, mini fridges, plenty of electrical outlets and user-friendly alarm clocks. Self parking ($16) or valet ($19) are mandatory, but guests have unlimited in-and-out privileges and the hotel offers shuttle service.
