Given that it's located right next door to the Freight House Farmers Market, it’s only logical that local products and flavors should take center stage at Fresh Deli. And they do. The bright, cheerful eatery is an outgrowth of Nostalgia Farms, which provides meat, eggs, produce and wool to the Quad Cities area. Not all items on the menu come directly from the farm, but most are locally sourced. The result is food that’s tasty and inventive.
Delicious bison sliders ($8) feature meat from Bluegrass, Iowa with Maytag blue cheese and grilled onions, all sandwiched into firm rolls. The bison has a mild flavor that pairs nicely with the tangy blue cheese, and with a side of crisp carrot and Napa cabbage coleslaw. The two-slider serving is enough to satisfy most appetites. Breakfast items include items such as French toast with smoky bacon ($4). The beignets ($3) are a house specialty, covered in powered sugar with a crisp exterior and pillowy inside. Don’t forget to try the homemade sodas; the invigorating ginger ale ($2.50) carries a botanical flavor you won't find in the usual bottled stuff.
Dine inside to enjoy the bustling farmers market vibe or outside on the porch to take in the Mississippi River views.
