Front Street Brewery offers a historic vibe: The pub is in an old brick building in downtown Davenport and looks a little bit like a hole in the wall from the approach. Once inside, though, it’s as cozy as can be with dark wood floors, brick walls, exposed ductwork and old city photos lining the walls. The bar is the focal point of the room and likely to be packed with young professionals enjoying happy hour or friends catching up. The dining area is on the small side, with a few close-set booths and tables. Overall, the feeling is friendly and casual. You seat yourself, but a server soon arrives to explain the menu and take drink orders.
The list of house beers includes a light Old Davenport Gold and Raging River Ale, golden with a bit of hoppiness. Food is mostly the expected pub grub—burgers ($9.95), fish and chips ($10.95), steaks ($13 to $16), sandwiches, salads and such. Some of the sauces and side dishes are too salty, but overall, dishes are hearty and satisfying. Don't miss the beer mussels starter ($10.95), sweet, tender mussels swimming in a garlicky broth with spicy aioli and smoked chile peppers.
