Editor's Review

Despite a stellar view and recent remodel, the food and service at the Eagle's Nest fail to impress.

Located on the top floor of the Hyatt Regency, the recently renovated Eagle's Nest rotates to offer one of the best views in Indianapolis. Unfortunately, the restaurant’s food and service don’t live up to its lofty setting.

On our recent visit, we waited 40 minutes for appetizers and another 30 for entrees—luckier than the diners at the next table over who waited almost two hours for their meals. Although the restaurant was only a quarter full, the waitstaff seemed overwhelmed, and we curiously had to surrender our menus quickly because they were needed elsewhere.

Choices include traditional fine-dining classics like crab cakes, steaks and fish, but nearly everything is underseasoned and overcooked, including a tiny piece of pan-seared halibut for an astronomical $42. The Parmesan-truffle steak fries ($8) were a high point, crisp with good flavor. Chicken fricassee ($28) was cooked well but lacked salt. When asked for a dessert recommendation, the server instead launched into a surprising criticism of the offerings she didn't like.

It's hard to find a better view of the city, but Eagle’s Nest really only merits a seat in the lounge for a quick cocktail.
