The family-run Cookie Cottage has been a popular Fort Wayne stop since sisters Maureen Madden and Theresa Kacmarik opened it in 1989. The tantalizing smell of fresh-baked cookies wafts over customers as soon as they walk in the cheerful but somewhat generic storefront situated in a north side strip mall near the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum. Basically, this is a respectable local version of the Mrs. Field's, Cheryl's Cookies or Great American Cookie Company shops found in major shopping malls.
Among nearly two dozen varieties, all the standard favorites are represented—chocolate chip, peanut butter, snickerdoodle and oatmeal raisin, as well as slightly more atypical options like chocolate chip mint, butterscotch and macadamia white chocolate. Iced sugar cookies are the best sellers; customers can also buy brownies and Georgie Pies, cookie sandwiches with icing in between. All the offerings are tasty and soft and will stay fresh for several days (if they stick around that long). Cookies are of average size and are available individually for $1.20; in half-dozen ($6.70) and dozen ($12) increments; in special occasion-appropriate sleeves and gift baskets; and arranged in cookie "cakes."
Cookie Cottage products are also available for orders by phone or online. They'll ship anywhere within the United States and personally deliver within the Fort Wayne area for an additional fee.
