A cozy pastry shop tucked into a mall near Branson's strip serves up a garden-room atmosphere and sweets you'll be talking about for a while.
Located in an upscale outdoor shopping mall on the famed Branson strip, Sugar Leaf provides a quiet, charming respite with the ambience of enjoying quiche in your tasteful aunt's garden room. The restaurant features a mouthwatering pastry case and a dining room decorated with tile floors and tables separated with antique windows hanging from the ceiling. The breakfast menu relies mainly on quiches, which we found adequate if not overly impressive. (And when we arrived at 10 a.m. on a weekday, the kitchen was out of all but one variety.) The lunch menu includes a limited selection of soups and sandwiches. But for the most part, people come to Sugar Leaf for the sweets. You could spend several minutes staring at the selection that includes fondant-draped cakes (including one in the form of an antique bodice), artisanal marshmallows, muffins and cookies. We tried the turtle cookie at the server's recommendation and found it a delightfully guilty pleasure, with its thick coating of caramel over nuts and chocolate. We can't say that Sugar Leaf's baked goods were significantly superior to those we've had many other places, but in the busy heart of Branson, a relaxed retreat like this is certainly a sweet find.
