Maxwell's House in Egg Harbor is a must-stop for shoppers in need of decorating inspiration. Proprietor Karen Peterson and her husband, Shawn, have created a funky, eclectic collection of furniture, accessories and home accents that offers a contemporary, soulful urban vibe with clear-cut Midwestern country influences.

The Petersons began transforming this former grocery in downtown Egg Harbor back in 1994 and have steadily turned it into a stronghold within this tiny lakeside community. The gleaming, lofted pressed-tin ceiling remains, sheltering a small but thoughtfully vetted inventory. Big-ticket home furnishings include sleek retro chairs and sofas, shabby-chic stained cabinets, bed frames and accent tables. There's also an impressive assortment of Company C throw and area rugs and a nice selection of Bella Notte bedding (note the fun throw pillows).

Gorgeous lamps and light fixtures include unique offerings from Kinzig Design, Luna Bella and CX Design. A $900 aqua-washed Lakehouse Cabinet is swoon-worthy, but there are plenty of more affordable choices as well. A delightful turquoise and fern-green stained-glass picture frame stands out amid a fun mix of gift items that takes in party glassware, novelty matchboxes, magnets, cocktail napkins and candles.
