Mojo Rosa's authentic Mexican cantina is a not-so-well-kept secret in the coastal landscape of Door County. The bar atmosphere here has a locals-only vibe, but visitors are more than welcome to join the party.
The owners recruited an Oaxacan native to design the menu and cook all of her homeland-inspired fare from scratch. And what fare it is … the smoky charred romaine salad with avocado and shrimp is especially delicious, and all of the Oaxacan specialties are divine. Good bets include the Chuleta de Puerco en Tequila, a grilled pork chop with Correjlo Tequila and pico de gallo; the Bistecca con Queso en salsa, steak with a jalapeno verde sauce (or roja salsa, if you prefer); and Pollo en Mole, tender slow-cooked chicken in mole sauce topped with sesame seeds. Customers can also feast on build-your-own tacos, chimis or burritos, all served with a choice of rice or chipotle potato salad, stewed frijoles and lettuce. Most entrees fall within $12 to $22.
Mojo Rosa’s serves some pub-style grub like burgers, soups and salads, as well as a kids’ menu of both Mexican and American offerings. On the bar side, there’s a good selection of draft beer and 99 bottled varieties including local microbrews. Drink specials might feature margaritas, spicy bloody marys or buckets of Corona on any given day.
