Midwest Living Recommends
Being behind the times has been the latest thing for years at this Brown County landmark.

From the Nashville House's folksy Old Country Store to the rustic dining room's sought-after fried biscuits and baked apple butter, the accent here is on old-time pleasures. Entrees like the country fried chicken or the baked Hoosier ham (very thin!) are decent, if distinctly pricey at $17.95 (a couple of serviceable sides and fried biscuits included). But settling back in the wooden captain's chairs to enjoy the rough-hewn wooden posts and beams of the dining room, the dripping-with-character antiques, the vintage hill-country atmosphere is worth something, too. Nor does rustic equal coarse; the napkins and classic red-check table coverings are cloth, and the gleaming wooden walls showcase art from Nashville's thriving community of artists. If you're as happy with the setting as with how they set the table, the Nashville House is worth a stop.
