Red Eye Brewing Company offers unique brews in an edgy, contemporary urban atmosphere. Brewmaster Kevin (a bicycle enthusiast, as evidenced by the dozen or so bikes hanging from the ceiling) uses three vats to rotate seven or eight artisanal beers at a time, the most popular being Thrush, a citrusy quadruple-hopped American IPA. On any given night, other selections might include Bloom Belgian wheat, Charlatan Imperial stout, SQ summer ale or Single Hop Redhead American amber. Indecisive drinkers can order a flight to sample a variety of wares. Vats are viewable from the long bar or dining tables, and a hanging chalkboard offers a short education on each beer.
The decent brewpub menu highlights wood-fired pizzas, from traditional margherita ($10.99) to Bayou Blast with Creole tomato sauce, shrimp, crawfish, roasted pepper and jalapenos ($14.99). Or build your own for $7.99 plus toppings. Pizza alternatives includes Chicken Mac (grilled chicken breast on macaroni with local cheeses, tomato and bacon for $14.99), blackened fish, IPA ribs, shrimp Creole, wild mushroom Alfredo, burgers, wraps, paninis, appetizers, soups and salads. Most food choices fall within the $8 to $10 range. All buns, breads and crusts are made from homemade dough, and meat is locally sourced.
