Venturi Pizza brings an authentic taste of Italy to Goshen, Indiana. Pizzaiolo Justin Venturi opened the eatery in 2011, becoming the first and only restaurant in Indiana, Ohio or Michigan to serve certified authentic Neapolitan pizza (according to the Naples association that safeguards pizza authenticity worldwide).
Dough is made using imported flour, topped with fior di latte (fresh mozzarella) and cooked in an 800-degree wood-burning oven for less than two minutes. The result is a perfect thin-crusted pizza. Options include a traditional Margherita ($10.95), a roasted pepper ($13.95) and a pepperoni ($8.95), all delicious. Plan on ordering one 12-inch round pizza per person, at least. Pizzas are served unsliced on round marble plates, and the menu offers helpful wine pairing suggestions for each pie in addition to a nice selection of local beers, sparkling San Pellegrino and soft drinks.
The ambience is a visual treat: painted brick walls, wood floors and a glossy black tin ceiling. The whole operation is high-tech, too; servers send orders to the kitchen from your table in real time via a smartphone app. Venturi Pizza is located in a small storefront, so plan on waiting at peak times. Open for lunch Wednesday through Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and dinner Tuesday through Saturday from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.
