The shop is small and crowded, it's true. But oh, the treasures that lie within Downtown Dough. Patrick and Patricia Niles opened their store in Cedarburg in 2000. He was a retail store manager, she was in love with baking, and that has equaled one successful shop. The two can often be found behind the counter dishing up advice on everything from the best baking sheets (the ones from Doughmakers) to what a nonpareil is (basically, a colored sugar pellet). Cookie cutters are the mainstay here; the shop carries more than 1,600 of them and has designed and created custom cookie cutters for such impressive clients as Disney, which requested a cookie cutter of the Cinderella castle. You can also find cookie stamps, baking molds, stencils, a wealth of decorations (sugars, sprinkles, jimmies, etc.) and innumerable kitchen-related items. At Christmastime, those who don't like to bake or make cut-outs can purchase premade cookie dough and precut cookies, which can be a lifesaver, not to mention a huge stress reliever!
