At more than 100 years old, this East Side destination offers quiet nature trails, a lovely flower garden, impressive pavilion and bird's-eye view of the Ohio River.
Stately is probably the best word we could use to describe Ault Park, which has an interesting mix of amenities. Locals often come here on their wedding day to snap photos in front of the beautiful limestone pavilion. Nature trails wind through woodlands, and a playground overlooks a small regional airport in the valley below. An annual car show and Independence Day celebration bring crowds to this hilltop park, but we couldn't help but get a "be careful!" vibe from the place while we were there in early spring. No dogs are allowed in the 224-acre park, and its carefully manicured lawns leads us to believe that this is more a place to admire than to really play in. Though we visited too early to see the garden in full bloom, we could tell that it would be destination-worthy come summer. And any time of year, it's an ideal place for quiet reflection, just a few minutes from a busy city.
