For as long as Kansas Citians can remember, Pierpont's has enticed couples and friends seeking a fine-dining evening out, as well as elegantly dressed youths looking for a special adult-caliber treat before prom. Its reputation for high-quality cuisine attracts diners from throughout the metropolitan area, and the location in the city's historical, renovated Union Station only makes the outing more special.
Steak offerings hold their own in this red-meat-loving town. We recommend the house specialty ($33-$40), a filet smeared with a blue cheese cream and fig balsamic reduction. If you're in the mood for seafood, the seafood bouillabaisse ($29) is a classic dish, and several filet varieties are available. The extras (appetizers, soup/salad and dessert) will increase your bill in a hurry, so try the small plate special that lets you add a smaller—and frankly, more reasonable—portion of all three for just $15.
Our only quibble: While the setting comes close to stuffy, some of greeting staff seem too casual for the atmosphere. But you come to Pierpont's for traditional steak and seafood, and it delivers. Reservations recommended, especially weekends. Lunch is also served Monday through Friday.
