This sweet B&B is within walking distance of East Tawas' downtown and the beach.
A quiet B&B in the beach town of East Tawas offer six cozy guest rooms and a soothing place to stay for the night. We found the B&B in a clapboard house off US-23. Railroad tracks run through the well-manicured lawn, although passing trains are infrequent. We were greeted at check-in by owner Leigh Mott, who got us settled and gave us a choice of breakfast times and entrees. Her favorite? Cream cheese-stuffed French toast. We decided to go with it. Our second-floor room, Country Charm, featured a king bed, wood floors and windows looking out over the lawn. The bathroom, shared with one other room, was across the hall. Those looking for more privacy might try the Il Giardiano room, with a private bath and a door leading out to the front porch. The upstairs rooms are divided from the rest of the house by a glass door so that part of the house could be refrig er, air-conditioned. Because the A/C controls are in the hallway, if one guest cranks it up, others who may want to just experience the cooling evening lake breeze are out of luck. In the morning, we took our breakfast out on the porch. The French toast and fresh fruit were tasty, but we would have liked real maple syrup rather than the imitation stuff. There isn't a lot to do at the B&B: there's a game room with a few games, but that's about it. However, it's within walking distance of downtown East Tawas' shops and restaurants and the beach. Overall, it was a sweet stay in a friendly, traditional B&B. Room rates range from $139-$179.
