The classic Minnesota lake experience gets even better at this resort, which has nicer-than-average cabins and plenty of amenities.
Eric and Mary Hanson know how to run a resort. Their 28 cabins are clean and well equipped, with comfortable beds, nice furniture, and Minnesotan accents like lamps with metal pine cones or loon carvings. Kitchens are fully equipped, and many include dishwashers. The Rippleside cabin, for example, features a fabulous view of the lake from the large windows. There's a cozy little living area with a couch, table, armchair and wood stove. Outside, there's a porch with a picnic table. The resort has several cabins, from a tiny one bedroom to a truly massive chalet that can hold sleep more than 30. They're all comfortable, quiet and clean. A two-bedroom by the lake is $1,750 for the week. The wide, sandy beach offers plenty of room to lounge, and the safely buoyed-off swimming area contains an inflatable water slide. If you'd rather get further out, they offer free kayaks, canoes, sailboats and paddle boats. Several of the cabins allow pets ($30 a night or $185 a week), and there's a solid program of kids activities like model sailboat building, fly tying and volleyball. Avid fishermen can take advantage of the on-site bait and tackle shop, along with well-maintained boats for rent. Indoor entertainment includes a game room and library with free DVDs. The resort is set well away from the road, so it's quiet and peaceful at night. Eric and Mary are good hosts, both friendly and professional. They send out a confirmation packet in advance of your stay and are good about helping guests get the right accommodations. You won't just feel comfortable at Pehrson Lodge -- you'll feel welcome.
