Sprawled along a Pelican Lake peninsula, this is one of the area's most popular destinations for large groups and families. Choose from a variety of lodging options, from lakeside hotel units with balconies to an Arts and Crafts-style reunion house. About half the resort's 250 units include kitchens. Activities easily fill a week with golf and Jet-Ski rentals or beach time and bonfires. The marina rocks to the sounds of an Elvis impersonator on Saturday nights, packing the lakeside with close to 1,000 in the peak month of July. Guests and the public can take narrated Pelican Lake tours aboard the Breezy Belle; boaters and pontoon cruisers often head to the resort's Gooseberry Island. Look close, and you might spot a goat or two in the summer. Whitebirch Golf Course, Antlers Restaurant, and Whitebirch townhomes and golf course are a short drive down State-11, but most of Breezy Resort's buildings sit on the main peninsula. We like the winter lineup with snow golf, Zamboni-groomed lake skating, nearby tubing, cross-country skiing and three indoor pools. Look for the community's annual Ice Fest in January, when they shoot fireworks above the frozen lake.
