A hearty dinner at the Peppermill is a delicious way to wind down after a day of tubing or kayaking on Niobrara National Scenic River. Whether you’re in the mood for sandwiches or steaks, the restaurant's new menu and new location are satisfying.
Starter options include Dakota cheese fries, Rocky Mountain oysters and Sand Hills shrimp skewers. We enjoyed the juicy, filling chicken sandwich, a tasty creation with smoked bacon, pepper Jack cheese and cayenne ranch dressing ($7.99). The flame-grilled Tangled Mango burger was also a winner with a brush of habanero mango sauce, sweet salsa and onion “tanglers” ($7.99). The beer-battered french fries make a memorable side. The menu also includes prime rib, sirloin, fish fry, chicken-fried steak and a handful of entree salads. Expect to pay about $8 for sandwiches, $13 to $30 for entrees.
Although the restaurant feels more upscale than fast-food eateries, customers don't need to stress about how they're dressed. Many visitors have spent the day on the river, and the entire town maintains a casual, outdoorsy vibe.
