We arrived at this hotel late on a Thursday night, with some trepidation because the online reviews were such a mixed bag. But since we simply wanted a clean, comfortable, convenient place to stay that was within walking distance to the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art and Country Club Plaza, we decided to give it a shot. Yes, the lobby did have a funky smell when we first walked in -- possibly rotting food? -- but the parking was free, the staff was friendly, and the rooms had two soft queen beds with white sheets and chocolate-brown accent pillows and blankets. The Wi-Fi was free, and it worked on the first try, and our stay included a free hot breakfast. All this for $85 a night? If all if you're looking for is a place to crash, this works fine. We will knock the hotel a bit for the absolutely tiny room in which you'll find that hot breakfast. The hotel was full the night we stayed there, and guests end up doing an awkward breakfast shuffle scootching in and out of the narrow room to get food and find a place to eat it. But as for online reviewers who say the neighborhood isn't safe, we don't agree. Yes, there's a liquor store across the street. But the property is well-lit and on KC's Main Street.
