Open since November 2009, Big Woods Brewing Company is the only microbrewery in Brown County. It's found in an alley off Nashville's Main Street, and it's easy to walk to from anywhere within the quaint downtown area. The wood-centric exterior features a roomy deck; inside, a tall beamed ceiling makes the whole place feel more expansive than it actually is. Big Woods brews five signature beers -- Busted Knuckle Red Ale, Tim's Big Woods Stout, Six Foot Blonde, Hare Trigger IPA and Possom Trot Pale Ale. Sampling helps customers discover their pint of preference; we liked the Six Foot Blonde, a refreshingly light pilsner-style quaff. The menu details beer-friendly eats -- sandwiches, pizzas, wings and ribs. The spinach artichoke dip ($7.95) was heavy on chunky veggies, light on cheese, served steaming hot with crispy tortilla chips and plastic ramekins of sour cream and pico de gallo on the side. The Emily's Garden pizza ($12.95 for a 12-inch pie) proved a tasty vegetarian option with fresh tomatoes, spinach, olives and feta on a cracker-thin crust. No complaints here, Big Woods delivers fresh food and good beer in a casual, comfortable atmosphere. Unlike some other brewpubs that allow diners to bring the kids along for dinner, Big Woods is strictly a 21-and-older establishment.
