Step back in time at this Prohibition-era eatery, where steak, seafood, and spirits reign supreme and service is spot-on.
If you're in the mood for some glitz and glamour without a sky-high price tag, Harry and Izzy's hits the mark. The sister restaurant to Indianapolis' legendary St. Elmo Steak House, the two share a few similarities, like their rich wood interiors, downtown location and even a handful of popular menu items. But Harry and Izzy's is making its name with a laid-back ambience reminiscent of a speakeasy and a more extensive -- and affordable -- menu. Standouts include their famous (and fiery!) shrimp cocktail appetizer ($14.95), filet sliders ($5 apiece), and prime rib sandwich with horseradish dipping sauce and au jus ($14). Want to go high-end? Order the rack of lamb, pan-seared and enhanced with orange zest, rosemary, mustard and red wine ($32). Stopping in for lunch? Try the absolutely delicious steakburger with spicy mayo ($11). Weekdays find Harry and Izzy's brimming with business-types; weekends bring in a flurry of romantic dates and late-night crowds at the sweeping circular bar (including part-owner and Indianapolis Colts quarterback Peyton Manning, if you're lucky enough to spot him). All in all, this is a solid addition to Indy's downtown dining scene, evidenced by plans to expand to a second location within the year.
