Injecting life into quiet downtown Paw Paw, the owner-chef at Cafe 237 turns out satisfying meals with many ingredients he makes himself.
Working at a kitchen window decorated with his daughter's cross-country medals, the chef/owner turns out satisfying meals at Cafe 237. Many of the ingredients are made by him -- pancetta, pickles, hollandaise sauce. Others are fresh seasonal items, such as the asparagus in the cream of asparagus soup. His popular salad with Michigan cherries, herb-poached chicken and balsamic dressing was tasty and satisfying. His whole place seems pretty popular: The only life on the street was the steady stream of people coming here for lunch. And he attracts the customers with solid offerings. Menus for breakfast, lunch and dinner are written out on large chalkboards hanging on the brightly colored walls. Wood floors gleam from sunshine pouring in from large front windows. Though the sunshine was nice, something on the windows to hide the view of what appears to be a deserted Main Street would be nice.
