Toys from the 70s and 80s pack this independently owned gem in Cleveland's Coventry neighborhood.
Baby Boomers and Gen Xers feel like Big Fun owner Steve Presser somehow visited all of their families' garage sales and Goodwill drop-off centers -- he's somehow found the toys they used to play with and the pieces of pop culture that once dominated their lives. Old plastic Halloween costumes line the entrance, complete with the slightly creepy plastic masks with the white rubber-band fasteners. Vintage "Star Wars" action figures, starting at $60 apiece, stand in locked display cases, as do He-Man figurines and Transformers. Candy cigarettes and Lemonheads line up by the register. There is room to walk inside, but otherwise, this 3,400-square-foot space is filled floor-to-ceiling with stuff (stuff hangs from the ceiling, too). This is destination shopping for Cleveland visitors; we came just to check it out and to find a cool quirky Cleveland souvenir that would allow us to tell the Big Fun story over and over again.
