Editor's Review

This bistro serves up spicy food in a fun atmosphere.

Colorful mosaics on the columns and bright blue tablecloths with terra-cotta pitchers holding flatware are just two hints at the fun atmosphere of this bistro. A second-story balcony looks down on the main floor, like they expect some people-watching to go on here. On the other hand, along the front wall of windows are a couple of nooks for two, so privacy can be had. The food puts an exclamation mark after the message of have fun. Tapas, paellas, gazpacho, one-bite plates, seasonal features using fresh and local products, several tasting flights -- it's all about bold flavors. You can get everything from a wake-me-up breakfast (breakfast nachos are $5.99) to a cool-me-down dessert. For us, a tasting plate of tarts and sweets, including a peanut butter tart and chocolate-almond cupcakes, vied for attention with the whiskey-soaked cake and brownie sandwiching caramel-pecan ice cream (both $4.99). The heat of the day made the layered dessert a natural. And there were no regrets about biting into the frozen treat while chatting with the friendly bartender who made us a perfect pot of tea using a French press.
