You'll need a big appetite to eat this juicy steak burger named Iowa's Best Burger by the Iowa Beef Industry Council and Cattlemen's Association.
The Rusty Duck's burger won the Cattlemen's Association and the Iowa Beef Industry Council designation as Iowa's Best Burger in 2011. It's worth a 30-mile drive from West Des Moines to the small town of Dexter to taste these burgers made from freshly ground top loin and sirloin steaks. These huge grilled burgers will appeal to everyone, but especially to those with a big appetite. The Rusty Duck looks like the typical bar and grill with several TVs, nice bar area, stone fireplace, and duck, deer, elk and pheasant pictures. The burgers arrive piping hot, perfectly grilled to order and juicier than any burgers you've ever tasted. The burger has a large grilled bun mirroring the size of the beef patty and includes lettuce and pickles (and tomatoes and onions by request). All sandwiches include a side of cottage cheese, homies (homemade fried potatoes) or french fries. For an extra $2.75 substitute a salad, onion rings or a baked potato. If you like your onion rings sliced thin and fried until crispy, it's worth the extra money. The Ultimate Cheese Burger wears just the right amount of peppers, onions, mushrooms, bacon and cheese to complement the burger without overwhelming it. If you're a bacon-lover, you'll want to try the bacon cheeseburger, topped with crispy bacon and melted cheese. Unless you have a huge appetite, you'll take half of these burgers home to enjoy later. The Rusty Duck also has a wide range of appetizers, salads with homemade dressings, steaks, pork loin, chicken, seafood, sandwiches and pasta. There's a kids' menu for children under 10 years old, but for an extra $2, adults can also order from that menu.
