New in 2010, The Nail Bar serves up manicures and pedicures in a relaxed and intimate environment.
Maybe it's the wine talking (just one glass of a California Pinot Noir), but The Nail Bar is hands-down fabulous. The space is on the small side, but smartly decorated with a pleasant blend of old (weathered yellow brick and exposed duct work) and new (glass tile accents and modern furniture). A row of large, west-facing windows provides natural light and opportunities for people-watching along Broadway's north end. Located on the main floor of the historic Ford building, the salon's drying station for freshly polished toes and fingers is cleverly disguised as a bar. A selection of beer ($4 per bottle) and wine ($7 per glass), as well as snacks and homemade sweets, is available. With just three pedicure tubs and four nail stations, The Nail Bar clearly seeks to set itself apart by emphasizing quality over quantity. Expect to spend one delightful hour per service. Appropriately, the names of individual services pay homage to various cocktails and alcoholic beverages. Manicures like the Don't "Wine," which includes an aromatherapy neck wrap and paraffin dip, and the Mango Margarita, which includes an exfoliating treatment and massage lotion infused with a mango and citrus blend, start at $28. Hand and forearm massage included. For the feet, choose from the Mint Julep, Papaya Cosmo-my-toes, Mudslide, Espresso-tini and other tasty pedicures, all of which start at $45. Unfortunately for clients, The Nail Bar isn't paying enough attention to the sounds surrounding the otherwise impeccable experience. The telephone ringer is jarring and loud. And the salon's background music isn't nearly as soothing as the forearm massage. Offering clients a selection of music at an appointments start would be a nice touch. The Nail Bar is open until at least 6 p.m. weekdays and on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. After-hours appointments and private events are encouraged.
