This neighborhood bar and grill boasts burgers that are satisfying (if average), but it's the other menu items that really shine.
Relatively new to it's suburban Kansas City home, BRGR Kitchen and Bar offers a casually fun atmosphere and broad and delightful menu. Unfortunately, its signature item -- the burgers --aren't really the best on the menu. Creative toppings are the key to these proclaimed "modern" burgers ($8-$9, plus $1 for a fried egg). And toppings are quite tasty. A dozen different combinations include hot fries and coleslaw on the Pittsburger; bacon, onion straws and BBQ sauce on the Roadhouse; a fried egg and much more on the Big Hoss. Served on onion, kaiser or corn buns, these add a flavorful touch (although they're generally too big for the patties). But the actual burgers within these sandwiches are nothing to write home about; they lack any significant flavor. Overall, the sandwiches were enjoyable. It just wasn't the "burger" portion of the burger that made it work. Tasty sides ($2.50-$4 for "sharing size"), including truffle tater tots, sweet potato fries and onion strings, plus a better-than-Mom's crock of mac and cheese, are just the beginning of other menu items that should keep BRGR on the map. If they could step up the quality of their patties, they could have it all.
