Like so many things in the Dells, Mr. Pancake is a bit over the top. The restaurant resides in an immense faux paddleboat in a prime spot on The Strip (Wisconsin Dells Parkway North), right across from popular Noah's Ark water park. You can't miss it. Which is good, assuming you take it seriously. And you should. The restaurant, a fixture since 1962, is impeccably clean and spacious. Not surprisingly, pancakes dominate the menu, and they're simply delicious: large, light, fluffy and attractively presented. Flavors include chocolate chip, strawberry, Iowa corn and peanut butter, to name just a few. Waffles, blintzes, crepes and omelets are also available, as are about a dozen lunch entrees (sandwiches, burgers and salads). To make sure patrons aren't waiting for coffee on busy days, you're given a cup plus a small, personal carafe holding more. Despite being in the oft-pricey Dells, prices here are quite reasonable, with dishes running about $6-8. Even better, if you arrive before 9 a.m. or after noon during the frenetic summer season, you'll get a 10 percent discount. On your way out, or while you're waiting for a table, you can browse a smattering of gift shop items near the register.
