Editor's Review

Shady Gators offers a spring-break-party bar with a Cajun theme.

Shady Gators, at mile marker 7 on the Lake of the Ozarks, is a restaurant/bar that's family-friendly by day, spring-break-party by night. It's not overly fancy but always a fun place to visit. We've caught some good entertainment while sitting on the deck. They play up a Cajun theme, especially when it comes to food. Look for menu items like blackened Fat Cat (catfish, $16.99) and red beans and rice ($12.99). For the less adventurous, there are staples like burgers and grilled-chicken sandwiches. The associated Lazy Gators takes the bar scene to the water, with a swim-up pool bar and white reclining-type chairs that have water-misters and music in them -- the perfect way to spend a hot summer afternoon. There are also gazebolike cabanas with shear curtains -- a great place to relax and watch the boats go by. They do charge to enter Lazy Gators, on occasion. It's boat accessible and on the main lake channel at mile marker 7.
