Fishing cottages, 1960s-era motels and family campgrounds -- these are plentiful along Michigan's sunrise coast. But a serenely romantic beachfront retreat was difficult, if not impossible, to find. Until now. The Huron House B&B, a 14-room enclave catering to couples (no children or pets permitted), offers luxury resort-style amenities such as huge four-posters with lush linens, fireplaces, Jacuzzis, wide-screen HD TVs, DVD and CD players, private decks and gorgeous views of Lake Huron. You'll also find a small refrigerator, microwave, coffeemaker, free Wi-Fi and binoculars for better views of Mother Nature's handiwork. A complimentary breakfast (fresh croissants, coffee and juice) is placed outside your door each morning at your specified time. Our room was spacious with large windows overlooking the lake, cathedral ceilings, a sitting area near the fireplace and a bar-height table and chairs. A lovely landscaped garden area, complete with chipmunks scurrying to and fro, leads to the pristine beach where chairs and chaise longues await sunbathers. Views like this don't come cheap; room rates range from $165-205 per night. A disappointment for us was that nearby dining options (and by nearby, we mean 10-20 miles away) consist mostly of pizza parlors, sandwich shops and family-style diners. Then again, fancy restaurants are a dime a dozen, but the setting at Huron House is priceless.
