Blu Ice Bar

Editor's Review
Visitors traveling the North Shore of Minnesota can enjoy a "cold" one at the first ice bar in northern Minnesota. Blu Ice Bar opened in 2011 in the yard of Grand Superior Lodge near Two Harbors. It's not a permanent structure; look for a white event tent, a setting that can be cozy and/or crowded, depending on when you go. Inside, a bar carved entirely out of ice and featuring the Grand Superior Lodge logo and various liquor brands engraved in more than 200 blocks of ice. In the corner, a massive solid ice corner bench covered with fur blankets provides the only seating. The word Blu is carved in another block of ice and colored a bright blue, providing a great place to snap pictures. Blue lighting provides a cool, contemporary vibe at night.
And that's it. You don't come here for the drinks, per se. You'll find a limited selection of Miller products, all served in a can, as well as a limited selection of mixed drinks, including a popular blue martini. Those looking for something "cooler" can enjoy a shot from an ice carved shot glass for just $5. As you might expect, the bar is cold, but you can warm up by a bonfire in comfortable Adirondack chairs outside the tent. The bar opens at 4 p.m. on Fridays and 2 p.m. Saturdays, as long as the ice sticks around.
