Because it's located a block or two beyond the true heart of St. Charles' historic business district, some visitors never find Picasso's. Boy are they missing out. This is a gem of a coffeehouse, striking the perfect balance of cool and cozy. Students curl over laptops, nursing big mugs of coffee, while couples and friends gather at small tables and in comfy armchairs. A local photographer's work hangs on the walls, mingling with funky coffee bags and colorful java-inspired versions of classic works of art.Besides an appealing array of pastries ordered in from a local bakery, Picasso's offers a surprisingly good lunch menu of salads, soups and grilled sandwiches. (The $6.50 artisan chicken panini with chipotle mayo, is especially tasty.) On the drink menu, the spicy hot chocolate is rich and delicious, with warming cinnamon-cayenne undertones.Folk and indie musicians play on Fridays and Saturdays; Picasso's also hosts a weekly open mike night.
