It's funny that this place bills itself as a fudge shop -- looking back on our trip, we thought of it as a toy shop that sells fudge. No matter. You'll get quality either way. Located in a 1837 building along Madison's Main Street, Madison Fudge Factory tempts patrons inside by arranging colorful vignettes of stuffed animals and toys out front on the sidewalk. It worked for us (and we bought the stuffed collie sitting in the wagon!). Inside, you'll find creative toys designed to inspire kids' imagination. The wares here are of the Melissa & Doug variety -- good quality, well-made and nothing digital or video-game related to be found. It's a fun place to browse, but before you leave with just a new toy, head to the back room and try some fudge. There are dozens of kinds for sale, and it's smooth creaminess will make you want to take a box home with you.
