The Red Pepper Deli and Cafe

Editor's Review
This popular lunchtime spot serves an array of sandwiches, soups, salads, wraps, grilled panini sandwiches and grinders. You'll find a chalkboard menu, an interior decked in yellow and orange paint, and a friendly behind-the-counter staff. The food is fine; the soup is fresh. We tried the Madisonian, a turkey, ham and roast beef sandwich topped with smoked cheddar, lettuce, mayo and mustard and served on a hoagie roll. The Miss Madison is roasted turkey breast with cucumber cream cheese, red onion, lettuce, tomatoes, mayo and mustard between whole wheat bread. Sandwiches come with bags of Lay's potato chips for $5.95, and it is plenty of food for lunch. Is it the best deli we've ever been to? No. But it's definitely among the best lunch offerings in downtown Madison and a clear choice over the fast-food options you'll find outside of town.
