A lot of towns these days can boast having a local brewery; Kearney is no exception. The Thunderhead Brewing Company has been handcrafting fine beer for more than 10 years in a part of Kearney known as The Bricks (for its brick-paved sidwewalks). The brewery's Golden Frau Honey Wheat can be found at retail outlets throughout Nebraska. Other core beers included their Cornstalker Dark Wheat and Ceremony IPA. But a regular line up doesn't mean the brewers at Thunderhead are done experimenting. A chalkboard at the brewery that lists seasonal beers available on tap includes new recipes being tried out on the drinking public. The Brewing Company also serves great food. We recommend taking advantage of their wood-fired oven. Their pizzas, baked in the flames of a hardwood fire, are not to be missed. And the rest of the menu -- fried chicken, excellent nachos, loaded potatoes and a mess of sandwiches -- won't disappoint. Diners can pick a table upstairs or down. The bar at Thunderhead is on the first level. Up one flight, you will find tables for larger parties, pool tables and foosball. There's even a digital jukebox on the wall for personalizing the soundtrack to your evening. Pizzas $10 to $15. Open daily 11 a.m. to 1 a.m.
