Editor's Review

The all-suite Inn at Aberdeen offers great amenities and recently updated rooms.

NOTE: The owners of this property contacted us in August 2012 to let us know they've updated their rooms since our 2010 visit, detailed below. We look forward to a return visit!

The Inn at Aberdeen, located about 5 miles from downtown Valparaiso, is an OK place to stay. The Queen Anne-style farmhouse has been tastefully expanded but still retains its original architectural touches. Each of the spacious 11 suites are outfitted with a whirlpool tub for two, a gas-burning fireplace and free Wi-Fi. They also each have a Scottish name, such as Bannockburn or Edinburgh. The rooms are decent-sized but a bit worn.

The inn marks the entrance to a manicured public golf course and upscale subdivision. It's located near a busy road; the passing cars create occasional, easy-to-ignore white noise during night hours. But the inn's walls are thin, so you can hear other guests from time to time. Breakfast, served in the stately wood-paneled dining room, is adequate. Fill up on the fresh-baked-bread basket and fruit parfait, we found the egg frittata square a bit rubbery. But pleasant servers will keep your goblet of fresh-squeezed orange juice and cup of full-bodied coffee brimming. Rates from $161 on weekends. (Pets are allowed in some rooms.)
