You can't tell from the decor, but of the two hotels at French Lick resort, this one is more family focused.
Walk into the ornate lobby of this century-old hotel and be wowed by the Vegas-like spectacle: gold paintings on the ceilings, marble columns and tile mosaics on the floors. Established in 1845 to accommodate people coming to indulge in the nearby sulfur springs, the hotel's east wing was built in 1901. Limestone from the original hotel can be seen in a hallway between the hotel and bowling alley. The decor might impress, but it is the family friendly activities that draw. There is a large outdoor pool, bowling alley, pizza parlor, game room and more. Activities include Kid Cooks, safaris and a teen club that serves "mocktails." A casino is at the other end of the hotel. The resort offers even more amenities: hiking/biking trails in the surrounding Hoosier National Forest, concerts and entertainers, and riding stables (horse and pony rides, seasonal carriage rides). Guests have access to three golf courses. Free shuttle service gets you to all the attractions. Rooms were recently remodeled in a $500 million renovation of the resort. From $219.
