Servings are definitely not small at Baker’s. From the specialty caramel rolls to the green-chile-smothered breakfast burrito, guests know they’re going to get their money’s worth at this friendly bakery-cafe. The sweet treats are an attraction for sure, but the homemade breads and buns also elevate typical lunch fare like bison burgers and sandwiches to something special. (The homemade soups are tasty, too.) Expect to spend $6 to $9 for breakfast or lunch.
Spunky young owner Cherish Baker has created quite a fan following in Custer. Her craveable caramel rolls often sell out well before noon. No worries, though. There are plenty of other pastries and desserts to consider, including cinnamon buns, gooey turtle bars, apple fritters, strawberry cream cheese croissants, and lovely summer berry stacks layered with fruit, cream filling, lemon curd and a light crust.
The Bakers seem to have the Custer bakery market cornered—Cherish’s dad and his wife manage Bobkat’s Purple Pie Place just down the street; Cherish takes over their baking duties when Bobkat closes for the winter season.
