We didn't have time for a full lunch when we popped in to Mr. Delicious Cheesecake Cafe, so we followed our instinct, skipped the sandwiches ($6.50) and wraps ($6.50) and went straight for the cheesecake. We tried two kinds: Butterfinger and, in a moment of adventurous spirit, the Nutella-Bacon. The Butterfinger was fine, studded with the crushed candy and topped with fudge sauce. While we love the Nutella hazelnut spread, the Nutella-Bacon Cheesecake sounded good in theory but could not compel us to take more than a second obligatory bite. Little pieces of bacon grease in the cheesecake pushed the bacon flavor way over the top, drowning out the Nutella and creating unnecessary flavor confusion. We actually didn't finish either piece. It couldn't beat a recipe we make ourselves, and frankly you'd do just as well with a nicely thawed Eli's Cheesecake from your grocer's freezer.The cafe opened in 2010 in this 3rd Street location in Bismarck. Exposed-brick walls and a handwritten chalkboard menu give the place some character. A side patio makes for a pleasant place to dine during the warm weather, and the sandwich menu seems inventive (one sandwich offers smoked ham with sweet potato spread and a pineapple Dijon mustard; another features turkey with applewood smoked bacon, jalepeno jelly and Gouda cheese). We'd go back to try the sandwiches -- you want to see businesses like this thrive -- but we're not hankering for more cheesecake.
