Housed in an attractive building -- part redbrick Colonial and part modern angular glass -- the exterior is as opposing as the collection inside. Permanent exhibits include Native American and Inuit art and artifacts, Asian paintings and textiles, Civil War-Era sculptures and Indonesian Etruscan artifacts. The diversity of the exhibits felt a little schizophrenic to us. For instance, a room of American Indian sketches leads into a room housing 18th-century European household items, which leads into an area with Asian artifacts. The smattering of items in each room is well curated and engrossing despite exhibit brevity. A large gallery at the end of the building features changing exhibits -- the one we saw, "Designing an Icon," was an impressive collection of 1960s and 70s automobile design sketches. During the warm-weather months, you can take a break in the small garden area where tables and chairs are arranged to enjoy the view. Admission charged; $5 for adults.
