If you're looking for a nice spot to catch the sunset in Door County, you can't do much better than the rocky shore out in front of the Little Harbor Inn. On the western side of the peninsula, the bed-and-breakfast is in a classic-looking home that was actually built in 1997 by a local contractor, using lumber he logged himself. Now his brother and sister-in-law run it, with graceful touches worthy of the house's gleaming pressed-tin ceilings. The eight rooms each offer queen-size beds, gas fireplaces and views of the lake, as well as other amenities, like whirlpool hot tubs or a wet bar. Your quarters alone will keep you comfortable, but you'll really enjoy little extras. For example, there are hand-wrapped packages of s'more fixings available at the front desk, so that you can make the treats over the bonfire the lake (on nights when the weather permits). There are bikes and paddleboats to borrow, too. And breakfast (tailored to fit any dietary restrictions) gets left on a tray outside your bedroom door. It's a luxury indeed to eat either in bed or out on the balcony or porch, looking at the water. Rates start at $119, May to October, and $99, November to April. One note: The Little Harbor Inn does not offer Internet access. If you desperately need to check your e-mail, there's free Wi-Fi at a general store five minutes down the road.
