Editor's Review

Stroll this popular recreational trail for pretty views of Fox River and the expansive homes along its banks.

Stretching from downtown Green Bay 20 miles south to Greenleaf on the Brown/Calumet County line, the Fox River State Recreational Trail is a wonderful place to get in a little exercise and fresh air while seeing the area from another point of view.

The trail, asphalt in the northern urban area and crushed limestone in its rural southern half, runs along the Fox River. Its urban half features interpretive signs and a "health trail" with spots for suggested exercises, such as sit-ups. This section also passes several parks with restrooms, water fountains and benches. The rural half has its own charm, passing farm fields and thick woods.

The trail is open to walkers, cyclists, in-line skaters and horseback riders; all save the walkers need a daily or annual pass ($3 or $20, respectively). Passes are available at pay stations along the trail.
