If you love lace, frills and Devonshire cream, Aprille's Showers will be your cup of tea. The Victorian decor is beautifully over-the-top, and the menu offers a mix of authentic British fare (lemon curd) and nods to the American palate (corn bread). Choose between the High Tea Luncheon (bottomless tea pot, soup, corn bread, croissant and tea sandwiches, lemon curd, scone, and dessert for $19.95) and the Light Luncheon (everything minus the dessert, $14.95), or nibble and sip off an a la carte menu. Special events, such as a American Girl Doll teas for kids and beloved Victorian Christmas Tea, attract girls of all ages (many in fun hats to match the mood). The Christmas Tea is wonderfully indulgent; a typical menu includes Waldorf salad, dinner rolls, pork tenderloin with cocoa port and sherry sauce, corn bread stuffing, butter pecan green beans, peppermint scones, gingerbread cake with cranberry filling, fairy drop cookies, candy bar fudge and, of course, good conversation.
