Editor's Review

You don't have to be a cyclist to appreciate this lovely local coffee shop, which just happens to be a bike shop, too.
The Bikery is a true neighborhood coffee shop, the kind bigger chains try to emulate and TV sitcoms strive to portray. Tucked off the beaten path on a residential corner, this family-owned spot is clearly a favorite among locals. Each jangle of the front door bell announces one neighbor after the other. Conversation flies over mochas, babies are passed between customers, and employees and bicyclists clomp in for a quick protein bar. With the steady flow in and out, The Bikery is a great place for people-watching. The space is divided into three parts -- the front coffee shop, the middle for casual lounging and a kids' space, and the back a biking sales and supply retail store. In addition to a strong supply of fair trade and specialty coffees and teas, The Bikery bakes fresh every morning croissants, brioches and breads. There are bicycles hanging everywhere, and many cycling groups and events are organized here. The space is hip -- not in a trendy, wannabe way, but because it is authentically community based. Check the website before visiting; the shop is closed Mondays.
