Stokes showcases the Southwest in both its decor (Kokopelli motifs, warm earth tones) and its menu. With close to 200 wines and a handsome bar, Stokes is suitable for a grown-up evening out, but not so fancy that a family would feel out of place coming here for an enjoyable weekend lunch.

The honey pecan barbecue chicken sandwich with perfectly crispy bacon and hand-cut fries ($9.95) is tender, juicy and tasty. Dessert selections include a yummy bananas Fargo—caramel sauce and chocolate over sauteed bananas with ice cream and a cinnamon tortilla shell ($6.95)—and a delectable flourless chocolate cake (also $6.95). Appetizers along the lines of roasted corn chowder, mushroom enchiladas and nachos run about $7 to $13, tacos and sandwiches $9 to $11, and entrees $10 to $15, with a XX Dos Equis filet capping out at $28.95.

While Stokes does have a second Omaha outpost, the Old Market location offers proximity to other activities and attractions as well as a nice setting in a beautiful old brick building with lots of big windows. Old Market can get busy on weekend nights, so reservations are a good idea.
